Its been a difficult year for us. Our youngest has
Been ill and the road to find the answers long and
not yet ending.

Periodic Fever syndrome is the current thinking
and the final tests are pending. The medicine they
Put her on seems to be helping so for now the
moments are bittersweet.

As I look back over this year I feel gratitude.
For the Friends that have been there for us thru
All the difficult times. For our family who have
experienced their share of suffering in the past and
grew as a result.

For my family and children who are such a sweet
blessing.

For all the moments that brought smiles, the moments
That brought wisdom, even those moments that
we experienced pain and suffering because we know
how very important love is and How it can and will
prevail thru the darkest valleys.

For all those who have suffered. Lost loved ones.
Feel the financial strains of the recession.
For all those who have like us still felt deep and
lasting gratitude for what we have, who we love,
and Know that in the end being together and loving one
another defines us.

May you find peace, May this coming year be filled
with blessings, may next years memories newly created
bring you smiles and less tears.

Thank you to each and every one of you who
we’ve Come to know thru the years.
We treasure your friendship.

Best Thing About Selling Vintage Clothing Online is without a doubt the shopping.

Being a collector and Seller I get to go out and look for Awesome Vintage and If I love it and it
Fits I get to keep some excellent items that I just can't let go of.

I Found a 70's Abstract shift dress that was so eye popping loud you could probably see it a mile
away. It fits perfect and Its now added to my closet.

My hubby cringes sometimes when I where those wild , bright, Oh my Gosh Look at that dress
Dresses but I LOVE them. They always get you attention, conversation and A where did you
Find that dress.

I Also Love when you find a Ton of great vintage all in one stop.
Tonight was one of those nights.

Found tons of guy deadstock 60's and 70's from leisure suit shirts all pearl snaps and
in every color imaginable plus Hunting jackets, Jumpsuit the putter, Original Tags
on Old jeans, And the list goes on. Just one of those Great nights when magic happens.

Girls are coming next weekend again for more photo's of what wonderful Items we found

Last Week I talked about selling on E-bay.
Basically frustrating with high fee’s now.

This week lets look at etsy.com
Etsy is a marketplace that specializes in
Handmade items and Vintage. Items 20
Years or older can be sold on the site.

The wonderful thing about etsy is its fun.
Its what E-bay used to be when I first
Started with them 5 years ago. A community.

The rules are simple. Be kind, Seriously that’s
The rules and try to work it out. Also don’t
Try to send buyers to other sites.

The fee’s are great! 20 cents for a listing for 3
Months time. That’s about 7 Cents a month as
Apposed to 25 cents minimum on E-bay.

The closing transaction fee’s are even better.
3.5 % of the total sale as apposed to about
12 % on Ebay.

Do they have the traffic and sales?
They don’t pull in as many people as
Ebay on a daily basis but they do have
A large following and Sales are great
And you get the price you want. Try them
You’ll love them ! Honest!

Selling on multiple venues you run across a lot of varied
Fee's.

Some are reasonable, Some not so much for what you get
for them.

Of all the places I sell vintage Clothing the one site
that takes the biggest bite on fee's is E-bay.

Example:

Sold a Christian Lacroix Blouse for 18.00 on auction over
there.

The Basic insertion fee was .25 for opening bid of 9.99.
The fee for gallery plus which enlarges your gallery picture
was an additional .35 Cents

When the blouse sold for 18.00 Ebay took out 1.58 in final
Value fee's plus an additional .82 Cents from paypal.

Thats a total of 3.00 in fee's on an 18.00 item

Now take off the 3.00 paid for the item.

Then take off the cost of every other item you list as
being unsold because the sell thru rate is about 50%
now for a lot of the sellers. (You can get the official
sell thru rate from trackers of it, its about 40% to 50% )

So for every item you list to sell one doesn't and your
still out the listing fee on that item too plus the
cost of the item.

Now you could list for a .99 cents opening bid which is free
on the insertion scale cost.

I tried that and the items only sold for .99 to 2.00.
I don't want to Lose money and work hard!

Sell an item for 9.99 and its an even worse case scenario.
Insertion .25. Don't bother with enlarged pics.
Closing fee of .87 cents and then take some out for
paypal fee's and the cost of the item. Garage sale
would net you better profits.

Now I'm an E-bay old timer and The old E-bay had lower
Fee's and auctions Were shown in the order they ended.

Your auction was floating across the first page with just
minutes left for a buyer to bid to win it.
Thus their were bidding wars that could drive up the
final sale price depending on how badly someone wanted it.
Exciting and Fun, I truly miss it!

Now its a new system called best match and your items
many times don't reach the first page to incite a bidding
war and sometimes just not much interest at all.

So why do Many Sellers still sell on E-bay if the fee's are
high and the sell thru rate is low.

Great form of Cheap advertisement.

They still have a huge Number of people looking around for
items and Even if an item sells low and the fee's are
ridiculous you get your item seen.

Now I've Heard of Sellers including Fliers for their web
sites and a list of other places they sell when they ship
the buyers item. (Probably not true though because E-bay
Would frown on that and Sellers don't want to incite the
wrath of E-bay) .

If a seller were to do that though They'd get the word out
where else they sell like their own web site.
They'd give added incentives to buy the item on their web
site like free shipping or 10 % off.

Just Hear say though I'm sure!

Next Blog a little break down on ETSY Fee's and Yeah a
little preview on them.

Their cheap, Really cheap on fee's and Its pretty much what
E-bay Used to be to a seller.

Friendly, sociable, Fun, Low costs, Set prices, Good profit,
and a generally great place to be!

I love dressing in Vintage for Parties. Everyones got the same old Same stuff. I've got Vintage.

Vintage Oscar De La Renta, Vintage halter Satin Knock your socks off turn your eyes toward me dresses. I've got Full lace 50's Gorgeous Party dresses that you cannot match.

I won't be meeting anyone that dresses like me at the door. None of that " Oh They've got the same dress too. " None of that.

Best of all is its a great conversation starter. Where did you get that dress? I've never seen one like that if you pull out one of those Eye popping finds.

Nope I bet They haven't because you won't find them at the racks at the malls.

Well This has been a throw back to the 60's week.

Usually I find a mix of anything from newer designer to grunge to 70's to 50's.

This week was the 60's. All 60's.

Lots of Polyester. Lots of Ditsy Dotted Op-art Crazy Prints in those Oh My God What Were they thinking at times Colors. Personally I love them!

I know a lot of People turn up their noses at the poly era but Who can resist a Shift dress that looks like a wall of Graphic art beyond anything colorful we see today. Or a White Poly dress with big blue and Squares Ruffled Bottom. How to get noticed for sure.

Next week its 70s. Found some awesome Hawaiian Palazzo pants that are in your face bright. Some one pieces that are Op-Art Crazy Pattern prints. One 2 pc Glittery Crazy abstract work of art in pants and vest thats definately one of a kind.

All I need are my love beads, Mood Ring and I'm all set to head out for the week

Online Vintage Clothing Selling

I Get A lot of Questions while I'm out and about trying to find My Vintage Items

The Stacks and Stacks of Clothing make me look like the world's biggest shopaholic or Who knows what so People Who are watching the pile get higher and higher eventually wander over to satisfy their curiosity.

Whatcha Doin with all those clothes?

You really going to buy all those clothes?

Man thats a Lot of clothes!

My reply is I sell vintage Clothing online.

Suffice to say Vintage Clothing online seller is not one of those jobs everyones heard of.

Almost every person replies "People actually buy old clothes?"

Standard Reply....Yup for real but only wonderful old clothes not just any old clothes.

Next comes Do you like it? Do you Make Money at it? How difficult is it to do it?

I think a lot of people dislike their day job and Online selling seems like a great option to getting up early, commuting , and dealing with the daily grind of working for someone else. I Did too thats why I do what I do now.

Answers are I Love it, I do make money at it but it won't make me rich (not that I'd want to be anyways) and Its not difficult just very time consuming and you gotta like being busy and Love Vintage Clothing.

I love finding vintage. Love finding One of a kind dresses with a history. Love putting together a LOOK for a fashion shoot with all my models. Its a blast.

Not so fun is the hours and hours and Hours of Looking thru racks and racks of clothing. Getting up at 5 A. M. to be the first one in the door at an estate sale. Checking the items over and over to make sure their in great shape. Editing 1000's of pictures. Shipping items daily, Sitting at the computer for hours writing up descriptions, taking measurements , generally running a business the way a business needs to be run. Professionally and with integrity.

The internet seems to hold this weird myth in a lot of the peoples minds due to the tons of books and infomercials that Basically Say You can work very little and make a lot of money.

It doesn't work that way. Not in a brick and mortar job. Not on the internet. You just have to work differently and Promote differently.

So for all those who've asked and want to know if its something you could or should do you can answer the following questions to yourself and see if its for you .

So here it is .

If you love Vintage Clothing and All things cool, funky gorgeous and old and don't mind spending time learning to recognize and find excellent vintage .
If You don't mind getting your hands dirty digging thru old trunks, Clothing racks, Estates, basements, and anywhere else you find Vintage Clothing for Some Rare and Wonderful Wardrobe find..
If You can look patiently thru 1000's and 1000's of racks of clothing one by one hoping you'll find something worth the time invested.
If You are a people person because when you out all day shopping you meet a LOT of people . People who are shopping for the same stuff you are, People putting the items out, People just plain having fun, People who are heart broken sometimes parting with a treasured item because they have too . You have to be a listener, it really helps if you genuinely care about the people your paths cross.
If You can handle competition and play nice. Theres a lot of competition with online selling. Basically theres only so many great items to get and theres a lot of people wanting to get them. Some people play nice and others Not so nice. Some are outright mean. If you can handle that with a sense of humor and take the high road, don't develope high blood pressure over it or anything its all good.
If You don't mind long hours Picturing and Checking and measuring and listing and shipping.
If You can sell on a lot of venues to ultimately Bring traffic to your web site and get discovered and have a sense of humor about all the rules, Fee's, and ways they all run differently.
If you can be self Disciplined because when you work for yourself theres no time clock to punch, no-one to answer to but yourself. Sounds great but theres those wonderful sunny days when the beach really sounds a lot more fun then digging thru racks of clothes. You have to make yourself go to work.

So check the above list. If your able to do the above your an online vintage clothing seller waiting to happen.

Selling Online is a blast. Selling something you love online is even better . Its just not the instant success with no work venue the late night telecommercials and a lot of books are pitching.

Personally I think its better then what their pitching.

At the end of my Very long day I've worked Really hard but I still love it I'm happy.

I feel good about what I accomplished whether its finding a great Dress, Sitting and Talking with Someone who's still grieving a loss at an estate sale, or Hugging my family when they wander in as I list at the computer . .

Thats what really makes it work, at the end of the day, Loving it!
